Make Your Story Last for Generations
Have you ever noticed how most stories eventually fade?
Sure, we hear a few passed down from generation to generation, but the ones that truly last – the ones that really stick – are the ones that were written down, carved in stone, or recorded with intention.
Think about it…
The cave drawings in France.
The Rosetta Stone.
Stories of ancient kings and queens.
Even today’s documentaries.
They all have one thing in common:
Someone took the time to document them.
They didn’t just hope their story would last. They made sure of it.
That’s why if you’re serious about building a legacy – not just a life of success, but a life of meaning – you need to be intentional about telling your story.
I’m not talking about hiring a film crew and doing an episode of MTV Cribs, showing off your house and all your favorite stuff.
I’m talking about something real. Something you.
Your legacy lives in the small things.
A scrapbook.
A journal.
A voice memo.
A letter.
A photo album with real captions and little notes.
Something that shares not just what you did – but who you were.
In another article, I talked about taking videos instead of photos so you can cherish your memories even more deeply.
But this is different.
This isn’t just for you.
This is for the people who come after you.
Your kids.
Your grandkids.
Your friends.
The people you’ve impacted.
And here’s the cool part…
When you sit down to create it, it’s not just about passing on the story.
You actually get to relive it.
When my wife and I made baby books for our kids, we laughed, we cried, we remembered so many little things we had already forgotten – even after such a short time had passed.
And now every time we look at those books, we don’t just remember the moments inside them – we remember making them too.
So here’s my encouragement to you:
Find your version of a “baby book.”
Find your way to capture your story – in a way that feels fun, natural, and you.
It doesn’t have to be perfect.
It doesn’t have to be fancy.
It just has to be real.
You might be surprised by how much joy it brings.
The laughs. The memories. The moments you thought you forgot.
You’re already building a legacy every day.
Now just find a way to celebrate it – and share it with the ones you love.
Make sure the way your story is told reflects the life and impact you want to leave behind.
To Your Legacy,
